    • The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) is one of the most popular car and industrial design schools in the United States. The school was chartered in 1882, and with one student and one professor, they began in the attic of the Cleveland City Hall. The Cleveland Institute of Art became official in 1949 and the school moved into their current location in 1956. According to an email from CIA department head Daniel Cuffaro, in the past four years, the school has found immediate employment with companies such as Honda, Toyota, GM, and Chrysler for 14 of 18 transportation (car design) graduates. To accommodate their growing demand, CIA purchased a former Ford automobile assembly factory in 1981, which enables students to experience a hands-on approach to the car design process. The school offers a four-year degree which focuses thoroughly on research conceptualization and communication which allows each student to develop an effective portfolio.
