Swiss Art Schools

Switzerland, historically known for its Art Nouveau and pop art styles, is home to several art schools. These schools offer bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of subject areas, including fine arts, graphic design, dance, music and theater. While most classes are taught in French or German, some classes are available in English through study abroad programs.
  1. Zurich University of the Arts

    • Zurich University of the Arts, or Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, is located in Switzerland's largest city, Zurich. It is one of the largest art universities in Europe and offers eight undergraduate degree programs and 10 graduate degree programs. Undergraduate programs offered are art education, dance, design, film, media and art, music, music and movement and theater. Graduate degrees include arts in composition/theory, fine arts and music pedagogy.

    Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Art

    • The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Art has five locations within the city of Lucerne. The school offers nine undergraduate degree programs and two graduate degree programs. Undergraduate degree programs include art and meditation, graphic design, illustration, animation, video, textile design, material design, object design and design management. The two graduate degree programs are design and fine arts.

    ECAL University of Art and Design Lausanne

    • Located in Lausanne, the ECAL University of Art and Design offers three undergraduate and two graduate degree programs. The undergraduate degree programs offered are fine arts, industrial and product design, and visual communication. The graduate programs offered are film studies and fine arts. During the 2010/2011 academic year, the ECAL had an total enrollment of 574 students with visual communications the most popular undergraduate major and film studies as the most popular graduate major.

    The Ecole Cantonale d'Art du Valais

    • The Ecole Cantonale d'Art du Valias, or ECAV, is located in Sierre and offers one undergraduate program and two graduate programs. Students studying the undergraduate program receive a Bachelor of Visual Arts and the graduate programs offer students a Master of Fine Arts or Master of Graphic Design. Approximately 200 students were enrolled at ECAV during the 2010/2011 academic year.
