Floral Art Schools

Many floral design schools around the country offer training on floral design and artistry. Most offer basic through advanced training and are intended both for hobbyists or for those pursuing a professional career in the floral industry. Besides flower arranging, floral art schools teach skills such as purchasing and running a business. Biology is also infused with most art schools to confirm understanding of all flower varieties.
  1. School of Floral Arts and Design

    • The School of Floral Arts and Design of New Jersey teaches the necessary skills needed for floral design and shop management. To receive a certificate, students must complete an 80-hour course in design, industry issues, pricing and buying. Designs included in the program are basic round arrangements, basket, wrapped bouquet, vases, wedding designs, memorial designs and sympathy designs. Previous design experience is required for professional courses.

    California Academy Classes

    • The California Academy offers a variety of specialized flower design courses including European Modern Floral Arrangements, Japanese Traditional Floral Art and art and craft classes using flowers in projects such as shadow boxes and decoupage. Courses are available for beginner through advanced levels. No previous design experience is required to register for classes.

    American Floral Art School

    • The American Floral Art School of Chicago is an instructional school for beginning florists that has been in operation for over 70 years. This school offers three-week-long courses of concentrated training in modern design, profit making and artistry. Three-week courses include Practical Fundamentals of Artistic Design, sympathy designs, silk and dried arrangements and wedding bouquets. Career opportunities are available through the school after successful completion of the floral course. To register, complete the online application available on the website.

    Chicago School of Flower Design

    • The Chicago School of Flower Design holds 3-hour classes twice a week. Classes teach flower cutting and design of a variety of flowers including orchids, tropical, English garden, and Holland varieties. This school also takes regular trips to flower markets to learn about flower buying. Students learn skills to create floral arrangements for weddings and table top arrangements. Classes are available in locations across the United States including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Minneapolis and Milwaukee. There are no registration requirements.
