Motorcycle Mechanic Schools

Motorcycle maintenance is no longer a trade that can be picked up simply by watching or reading a few books. Despite their relative simplicity when compared to cars and trucks, motorcycles are still highly complicated machines and require as much computer knowledge as they do mechanical. There are a number of schools that specialize in teaching would-be mechanics the skills they need to be successful in the work place.
  1. Wyoming Tech

    • Commonly referred to as just Wyo Tech, Wyoming Technical Institute runs a motorcycle specific program. The program is designed to offer students the general skills they need to successfully work on any brand of motorcycle; however, students can choose to specialize in either Japanese brands, European brands, the Harley Davidson brand or Off Road Power. Students gain a complete education in motorcycle maintenance, including two and four stroke engines, and suspension, brake, fuel, and computer systems. Admissions are largely based on an in-person interview, but transcripts and test scores are also considered.

    Motorcycle Mechanics Institute

    • The Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, or MMI, is a division of the Universal Technical Institute. The school has campuses in both Phoenix, Arizona and Orlando, Florida. The 36-week core program provides students with the education they need to diagnose, service and repair or replace broken parts on any motorcycle. Electives are offered, including specialization in old and new Harley Davidson, BMW, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda brands. All these electives are not offered at both campuses, however, so campus choice is important. Students graduate with access to career placement services and are given $1,000 worth of tools.
