Government Trucking Schools

Before starting a career as a professional truck driver, drivers need to earn a commercial driver's license, or CDL. A CDL is the primary requirement for operating a vehicle weighting more than 26,000 pounds---including buses, tractor trailers and tow trucks. In order to earn a CDL, potential drivers need to complete a qualifying education program. These programs are offered by privately owned companies or at government-subsidized schools.
