Top Ranked Culinary Schools of Kentucky

You can classify the top schools for culinary arts study in the state of Kentucky as belonging in one of two categories. One program has received national recognition and, although no official rankings lists exist for culinary arts schools, has established itself as one of the top culinary arts schools in the nation. The second grouping of schools comprises the "best of the rest." These programs exist among the state's technical and community colleges and have programs that provide students with the necessary education to start a career in culinary arts.
  1. Sullivan University

    • Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky, is home to the National Center for Hospitality Studies. Sullivan is nationally recognized as one of the top culinary institutes in the United States. In its 2009 rankings, chef2chef.net ranked the program No. 12 among all culinary programs nationwide. Similarly, edinformatics.com ranked the school among the top culinary schools in the nation as well. Sullivan offers associate degrees in the fields of culinary arts, baking and pastry arts and professional catering. The school also offers diplomas leading to credentials as a personal chef and professional baker. Students can pursue additional studies in hospitality management leading to a bachelor's degree as well.

    Owensboro Technical College

    • Owensboro Technical College offers certificate and diploma programs in various aspects of the culinary arts. Although not nationally ranked, Owensboro offers diplomas in the culinary arts, food and beverage management and personal chef and catering training. Students can obtain certificates in culinary and advanced culinary arts, catering and food and beverage management.

    Jefferson Community & Technical College

    • Jefferson Community & Technical College (JCTC) in Louisville also provides students with culinary arts training through its various programs. Rather than just offering certificates and diplomas, however, JCTC offers associate of applied science degrees in the field of catering culinary arts and food and beverage management. Students can earn additional certificates at advanced levels in these fields as well.

    Elizabethtown Technical College

    • Elizabethtown Technical College also offers an associate of applied science in culinary arts. Students can pursue the degree with specializations in catering, food and beverage management, personal chef training or culinary arts fundamentals. As part of the program, students take courses in Human Nutrition and Wellness, Meats, Seafood and Poultry and Basic Food Production.

    • Bowling Green Technical College also offers an option for those wanting to study the culinary arts in Kentucky. Aside from the program at Sullivan University, the program at Bowling Green offers one of the most extensive offerings of culinary programs in Kentucky. Students can pursue associate degrees in culinary arts, personal chef and catering training and food and beverage management. The school offers various certificates and diplomas in each of these fields as well at both the basic and advanced levels.
