The college offers courses on training to become a nurse assistant. Students are trained to work in hospitals, care facilities and in private residences. Candidates interested in seeking a certificate are required to pass a nurse assistant course and a nurse assistant clinical. The program lasts less than a year, not including any general education requirements that may exist. Certification is official only when the candidate passes the Utah certified nursing assistant exam.
Phlebotomists are assistants that draw a patient's blood. Students learn to draw blood from a vein using a variety of methods. Candidates are required to pass a CPR class, a drug test and criminal background check, and to have all required immunizations before applying for the course. Upon passing the one course, students will receive a phlebotomy certificate.
Emergency medical training technicians (EMT) act as assistants to fully licensed EMTs and hospital staff. Candidates must be CPR certified to be eligible for the EMT course. The course prepares students to aid accident victims and teaches students how to set bones, bandage wounds and react to injury and illness. The EMT basic course is eight hours and upon passing it, students must pass the state EMT B exam to become certified.
