Fulfill the prerequisites for attendance at Bates Technical College. The school requires that its dental tech students have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years of age, and pass an exam that tests hand-eye coordination and visual acuity of objects in 3D.
Contact a career adviser or admissions officer at the college and request an application for admission. Be sure to note important dates, deadlines and application fees required by the college. The admissions office can be reached by telephone at 253-680-7000. You can also request an information packet by emailing [email protected].
Submit your application and prepare to begin your studies at Bates. The dental technician program takes two years, and students earn an Associate of Science degree. Classes for first-year students are held Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Complete both years of study. The second year includes spending much of your time at a dental laboratory to fulfill the working-experience requirement. This experience also helps tremendously in job placement once you finish the program.
