Research which colleges and universities offer accounting degrees and determine which school is the best fit for you. Keep in mind the cost of tuition, student fees and textbooks. Make sure that the schools you want to apply to offer accounting as a major or as a concentration in a business program. Once you have determined which programs you want to apply to, you can begin the application process.
Enroll in and complete the courses you need to take to complete your degree. In a traditional college, a degree takes four years to complete. If you are enrolled in an online course, you may be able to earn your degree in two years. Accounting programs typically require you to take basic and intermediate accounting classes, business and business management classes, and economics classes.
Complete your degree by passing all the necessary accounting, business and economics classes required for the degree, as well as your general education requirements. School vary in requirements, but an accounting degree typically involves about 82 hours worth of course work. You may need roughly 120 credit hours to graduate; the rest of these credit hours are dedicated to general education requirements. Consult with your academic adviser to discuss which classes are mandatory and which are electives that count toward your degree. You must pass the required classes for your accounting degree with a "C" grade or higher.
