The California residents pay an enrolment fee of $26.00 per unit as of February 2011. If you are a non-California resident, whether you are from other states or another country, the cost per unit ranges from $175.00 to $208.00. This is in addition to the standard enrollment fee of $26.00 per unit. This means that, if the rate is $175.00, you have to add $26.00 to the amount so your total payment will be $201.00 per unit. Citizens and residents of other countries who wish to enroll in community colleges in California can also be charged a $50.00 application fee.
The Capital Outlay Fee is an extra fee that the California community colleges charge to non-California residents. It ranges from $6.00 to $35.00 per unit (as of February 2011) depending on what school district are you planning to enroll in. It can be waived if you demonstrate some form of economic hardship, persecution or discrimination in your home country.
Health and Accident Insurance Fees vary from one school district to another. In Pasadena City College for example, international students pay $456.00 for each six months. United States citizens and legal residents pay between $10.00 to $17.00 per semester (as of February 2011).
Community college students are mandated to pay one dollar Student Representation Fee. California and non-California residents pay the same amount. Some campuses will waive the fee if the student refuses based on moral, religious, political or financial grounds.
If you drive, it is recommended that you pay a parking permit fee. This is not only convenient for you but also a money saver. In areas like Pasadena or Los Angeles, street parking is very limited and if you use public parking spaces, it will cost you between $5 to $15 dollars a day. Using the school parking will cost you between $15.00 to $64.00 per semester as of February 2011. If you drive a motorcycle, the fee is $10 per semester. All drivers also have an option to pay the daily rate which is $1 to $2.
Other fees that some of the California community colleges charge are Associated Student Fees, Student Center Fees, Course Fees, Student Activity Fees, Instructional and Materials Fees, and Universal Transit Pass Fees. Those fees ranges from $1 to $10 per semester as of February 2011.
