Gwinnett Forensic Colleges

Gwinnett County, Georgia, has a population of more than 800,000 as of 2009, and includes many of the suburbs of Atlanta. Those looking to work in the forensics and criminal justice field have plenty of career opportunities here: Gwinnett's jail in Lawrenceville, the county seat, houses 2,500 inmates. Between that and its busy police force and court system, the county offers plenty of forensic college programs within county limits.
  1. Gwinnett Technical College

    • Gwinnett Technical College is near Lawrenceville. Its computer sciences department offers a cyber-crime specialist certificate program, which trains students in computer forensics and cyber crime. The program lasts a minimum of three quarters (44 credit hours) and is designed to graduate entry-level computer forensics technicians. The spring application deadline is March 1, 2011.

    DeVry University

    • Another option would be to do a four-year bachelor's degree in Justice Administration at DeVry University in the Gwinnett County city of Duluth, with a specialization in Digital Forensics. Both investigative techniques and computer systems are studied in detail. Students learn how to spot illegal or unethical activity within a computer network.

    University of Phoenix -- Gwinnett Learning Center

    • Established in 1976, University of Phoenix is best known for its online programs, but has an on-site campus in Duluth, Georgia. It offers a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice administration, and a master's of science in Administration of Justice and Security that includes a course in Forensic Science and Psychological Profiling. The master's degree is currently taught online -- great for busy, working adults.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • This nationwide technical college, founded in 1969 (80,000 students in 36 states), has a campus in Duluth, Georgia, and offers a bachelor's of science in Criminal Justice that includes a course in Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation. The catalog states that graduates will be qualified for entry-level positions in a wide array of criminal justice careers in the private sector, such as private investigators and in the public sector, such as parole officers and law enforcement.
