Everest Institute in Cross Lanes is located right outside of Charleston on Interstate 64. At its founding in 1851 the original name was Duff's Business Institute. Students study electronics, computers and the medical field while in a small classroom environment. Total enrollment is around 130 students as of February 2011; students are broken down into small work teams inside the classroom. Students can learn on site or online. Most programs can be completed within nine months. Everest Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.

The school offers diplomas or associate degrees in the following technical programs: medical, computers, business administration, legal office administration and dental assisting. WVJC programs are designed to have students job ready in months with a small class-based instruction. Enrollment averages yearly between 180 and 220 students taking day and evening classes. WVJC has accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.
ITT-Technical Institute was founded in 1969 and currently has 80,000 students in 38 states. The Huntington campus offers technical programs in information technology, electronics technology, drafting and design, criminal justice and health science. Originally named Fairmont State Community & Technical College, Pierpont Community & Technical College was founded in 1974 in Fairmont. This college's average enrollment is at 3,000 students; students up until their sophomore year are required to stay in campus housing. Students are able to obtain a certificate or associate degree in one of the following technical programs: communications, engineering, culinary, human services and health or aviation technology. Pierpont has institutional accreditation and offers distance learning classes as well as on site classes.

WVU Tech was founded in Montgomery in 1895 as Montgomery Preparatory School. Enrollment is at 1,224 students as of February 2011. Students can study programs in engineering, sciences, mathematics, health care, business, humanities and social science. WVU Tech is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and has on campus housing for students.
