  1. Virginia Tech

    • Virginia Tech is a technical school and so much more. Because it is a large research university, there are a number of resources that are not available to students at smaller institutions. Although there is a liberal arts segment of the university, the emphasis remains on technical education. Technical programs at Virginia Tech include 17 agricultural and life science majors, six programs in architecture and construction, 14 engineering programs, four natural resource majors and a veterinary medicine program.

    Centura College

    • Centura College is a technical college that offers students a chance to pursue degrees, diplomas and professional certificates. The college has seven locations throughout the state of Virginia--Alexandria, Chesapeake, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond (two campuses) and Virginia Beach. Not all programs are available at every campus, but the college offers programs in medical assisting, dental assisting, computer networking and HVAC.     Advanced Technology Institute

    • The Advanced Technology Institute in Virginia Beach offers five hands-on training courses for the student interested in a technical education that is also manual in nature. Programs include maritime welding, automotive, diesel engines, HVAC and commercial driving. ATI is certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation as well as licensed by the commonwealth of Virginia.     Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center

    • Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center operates as both a high school and an adult education center. High-school students can earn dual credits and professional certifications in their chosen trade.     ECPI College of Technology

    • The ECPI College of Technology is a career institute with an entire segment devoted exclusively to technical training. The college allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in 2 1/2 years by holding classes year-round. Both bachelor's and associate programs are available in video game programming, electronic engineering, web design, medical imaging technology and database programming. ECPI has locations in Roanoke, Innsbruck and Richmond.
