The Audio Recording Technology Institute is a private school for audio and recording technology in Orlando. The primary areas of concentration for the school are digital audio, studio operations and mixing and advanced post-production techniques. The Comprehensive Audio Engineering Program that is offered by the school focuses on music production, sound for television and sound post-production for film. Classes at A.R.T.I. are very small and one of their primary points of attraction. No class is larger than six students, and each student has an opportunity for hands-on study, as well as individualized attention from faculty members.
The Recording Connection Audio School is based in Los Angeles, but it offers classes and courses nationwide, including in Orlando. The Recording Connection Audio School is not a formal course of study; rather it is an arranged mentorship program that leads to certification. Students are paired with professional mentors, who are well-established and respected practitioners in their fields, whether for audio engineering in general, post-production work, mixing, recording techniques, production or film audio. The students study a pre-determined curriculum with their mentor, while also working extensively with their mentor on their mentor's current commercial projects.
The Florida Institute of Recording Sound and Technology offers programs in audio engineering and music production, as well as programs in film and video production. With a focus on ProTools and MIDI technology, the audio programs teach basic introductory skills as well as more advanced post-production techniques for mixing, mastering and editing. The total length of the program is eight months, and graduating students receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program. While the program offers courses in analog and digital technologies, the primary focus is on contemporary digital technology for modern recording studios. Located in Orlando, the school also organizes and includes tours of local audio and visual production facilities for its students. Tours include visits to Disney Studios, Universal Studios, Cox Radio and CBS Radio, among others.
Full Sail University is located in Winter Park, Florida, about 15 minutes north of Orlando by car. The university offers a wide variety of entertainment and music industry programs, and offers students the chance to either specialize in one area or to combine interests. Students interested in both audio and visual production have the chance to combine programs and receive a degree with a double major or two certificates. The programs are all one year in length, and the emphasis is on acquiring industry standard software and hardware abilities. The program is primarily theoretical in basis, with only a few projects allowing students hands-on practice with the necessary equipment.
