A joint institution of Florida A&M University and Florida State University, the FAMU - FSU College of Engineering (eng.fsu.edu) offers degrees in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electronic, environmental, mechanical and manufacturing engineering. With more than 2,200 students and 85 faculty members, the College of Engineering has been in existence since 1983 and runs the Challenger Learning Center. Multiple research centers are staffed by graduate students working on multimillion-dollar contracts. The learning center provides outreach to K-12 students in the area by using aerospace as motivation to explore the fields of math, science and technology.
The University of Florida College of Engineering (eng.ufl.edu) offers degrees in aerospace, agricultural, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, computer science, electrical, environmental, manufacturing, materials, mechanical and nuclear engineering as well as management. In 2009, the UF College of Engineering ranked 32nd overall and 18th among public schools for undergraduate programs by U.S. News and World Report. Graduate rankings were similar, while many individual programs ranked highly, especially the agricultural program.
The University of Miami College of Engineering (miami.edu/engineering) offers degrees in architectural, biomedical, civil, computer engineering, computer science, electrical, manufacturing and mechanical engineering. The UM College of Engineering enrolls more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students that have access to 30 different specialized laboratories. The school also sponsors students in BattleBotsIQ, a national education competition of robotics, and has developed a dormitory that includes a self-sustaining water system.
The Florida Institute of Technology College of Engineering (coe.fit.edu) offers degrees in aerospace, chemical, civil, computer, computer science, electrical, environmental and mechanical engineering as well as management. The school enrolls more than 1,700 undergraduate and graduate students in 45 different programs taught by 70 faculty members. The FIT College of Engineering is a top-ranked technological school for engineering according to the Fisk Guide to Colleges and offers an intensive capstone experience as students design and build engineering systems in teams.
