Florida State Public Community Colleges

Community colleges are affordable means of receiving education for many. Florida College System is made up of 28 state and community colleges, according to the Florida Department of Education. The public community colleges in Florida offer various certificate, associate's and career-enrichment technical programs to prospective students. Many offer adult education and health care programs too.
  1. Brevard Community College

    • Brevard Community College is a publicly funded, post-secondary institution with six locations throughout Brevard County. Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, BCC awards associate degrees in business administration, criminal justice, chemical technology and early childhood education, among others. The college also offers career and technical programs in many fields such as architecture and construction, communication, education, science and technology.

    Hillsborough Community College

    • Hillsborough Community College is accredited to award diplomas, certificates and associate degrees. Along with a college preparatory curriculum, students can earn an associate in arts, science or applied science degrees. Post-secondary adult vocational programs include auto body collision repair, automotive service, dental assisting and firefighting. An array of distance learning courses are available for students with a busy schedule. HCC campuses are located in Tampa, Plant City, MacDill and Ruskin.

    South Florida Community College

    • South Florida Community College serves the counties of DeSoto, Hardee and Highlands. SFCC is an accredited public institution that offers several degrees and community education programs. The college awards associate's and occupational apprenticeship certificates. Health programs in dental education, emergency medical service, nursing and radiography are also available for students who wish to pursue a career in health care. High school students may enroll at the Career Academy at the SFCC and earn their high school diploma and a vocational certificate at the same time.

    Tallahassee Community College

    • Tallahassee Community College is an accredited public college that ranked No. 15 among two-year institutions nationwide in the total number of associate degrees awarded in 2010, according to the school's website. Along with awarding associate's in several areas of study, TCC prepares adults for the GED. It offers several continuing education programs in construction, information and manufacturing technology. Around 184 self and Web-based courses are available for students who wish to work at their own pace.
