A post secondary student services office or an office of degree authorization maintains lists of colleges that have closed and contact information for where to find your transcripts. The office may have a copy of your transcript or diploma itself. In some cases, these offices do not have contact information for all colleges that have closed in your state. If this is the case for your school, contact your state's department of education.
Your state's department of education may also have a record of your transcript or diploma. Sometimes the records of colleges are in disarray when they hand them over to the state and it can be difficult or impossible to find a student's particular record. Contact both the office of degree authorization or student services and your state's department of education if this is the case for you.
When you request a copy of your transcript, you may have to use a request form. Contact the office by phone or look on its website to find out if this is the case. You may only have to provide information about yourself in a written request. A fee is sometimes charged to look up the record. Provide as much information as possible in your request, including your current name, any other name you used while you were in college, your major, date of birth, Social Security number and address at the time you were in college.
Do not pay any company to look up your transcript or reproduce your diploma for you. Only request a copy of your transcript through your state's official department of education or office of degree authorization or student services. If you do otherwise you will end up with a fake diploma.
