Washington State Technical Schools

Home to dozens of public and private higher educational institutions, Washington State also has 34 community and technical two-year colleges. The state's technical schools offer training in some of Washington's most competitive careers, such as dental assistance and the culinary arts.
  1. Bellingham Technical College

    • With roots extending back to the early 1900s, Bellingham Technical College (BTC) was founding in 1957 as Bellingham Vocational Technical Institute. Renamed Bellingham Technical College in 1991, this technical college serves students with an extensive catalog of programs in business, health-related fields, engineering, and culinary arts, among others. With 34 associate degree programs and 57 certificate options, more than 2,000 students attend BTC full time. Matriculated BTC students, graduates and prospective students can all take advantage of the school's career service resources, which offer guidance in career development, job search skills and locating job opportunities. BTC is 90 miles north of Seattle and 60 miles south of Vancouver.

    Lake Washington Technical College

    • Lake Washington Technical College (LWTC) has branch campuses in Redmond and Duvall, in addition to the main campus in Kirkland. Founded in 1949, LWTC trains students in 38 programs in information technology, business and service, health and fitness, manufacturing and transportation technologies and the humanities. More than 100 professional and technical degrees and certificates are available to students enrolled at LWTC. The college offers a variety of resources and services to its students, including advising, workplace skills and worker retraining for military veterans and displaced homemakers.

    Clover Park Technical College

    • Located just 42 miles south of Seattle, Clover Park Technical College offers more than 50 training programs, each of which reflect the economic need of the Lakewood community and surrounding areas. Clover Park additionally offers 60 certification programs in a range of specialty fields. Full- and part-time students train on the school's sprawling campus of more than 100 acres. On-line programs and campus childcare services make studying at Clover Park convenient. The college features two-year programs in areas like business and computer technology, health and human services, and natural sciences, among other popular fields.

    Bates Technical College

    • Bates Technical College has three campuses in Tacoma, Washington, including a location in the city's downtown area. Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Bates offers a variety of certificates and associate degrees in technical fields --- from boat building and broadcasting to Web development and welding. Scholarship awards are available throughout the year to students in specific programs. Bates has general education requirements for students to fulfill in order to ensure competence in a variety of areas.
