Schools With an LVN to RN Program

Licensed vocational nurses provide routine healthcare to the sick and injured under direction of a physician or registered nurse. They have some opportunity for advancement after many years of experience such as supervising certified nurse assistants. However, registered nurses have much more responsibility and considerably higher pay. LVNs can go back to school and enroll in a bridge program to advance to RN status.
  1. Prairie View A&M University

    • Prairie View A&M University offers a two-year program for LVNs seeking a bachelor's degree in nursing, which will qualify them to become licensed as a registered nurse. Requirements for admission include having graduated from an accredited technical or community college program in Texas or other state, current licensing as an LVN and a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or higher. They must then pass a pre-admission exam. This exam may only be taken twice. Classes for the first year cover subjects such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, sociology and pathology. The second year consists of clinical experiences in a hospital setting where candidates will experience nursing duties in various specialties. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.
