A List of Junior Colleges in Southern Iowa

According to the Iowa Department of Education, there are 15 community colleges in the state. There are many benefits to attending a junior, or community college, in the State of Iowa. Each of these schools offers comprehensive educational programs to students from an accredited institution. For students who wish to stay in the southern region of the state, there are junior colleges in southern Iowa.
  1. Southeastern Community College

    • At Southeastern Community College located in Burlington, Iowa, students receive an education from a junior college that is a member of many associations, including the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees, the League for Innovation in Community Colleges and The American Association of Community Colleges, just to name a few. Students are encouraged to fill out the application for admission which is easily accessed from the web page and any questions regarding the application process can be directed to the enrollment services staff which is also available through the website. New students at the junior college are required to attend an on-line orientation, and on-campus tours and orientation are available by appointment.

    Southwestern Community College

    • With a total student population of approximately 1,600, students at Southwestern Community College can enjoy convenience of locations in Creston, Osceola and Red Oak, Iowa as well as courses available on-line. The junior college is accredited with The Higher Learning Commission and offers programs ranging from nine months in length to two years. The athletic department at Southwestern Community College offers baseball, cross country, men's and women's basketball, golf, softball and volleyball. There is a career counseling center on campus as well as financial aid available through the financial aid office to students who qualify. Applications for admission are available and encouraged through the website.

    Indian Hills Community College

    • With three locations in southern Iowa to choose from, students attending Indian Hills Community College have convenience above all else. The junior college prides itself in the "open admission" policy, which means every student that fills out the application for admission correctly will be admitted to the school. Students can fill out an application on-line via the school's website and send it that way, or they can print off the application for admission from the website in a PDF format and mail it to the junior college. The Indian Hills Community College has three degrees: the Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.) and the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S). Some of the academic divisions are arts and sciences, health occupations and skill-building courses.
