Hennepin Technical College is a technical college located just outside of Minneapolis in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The automotive technician program at HTC teaches students the diagnosis, repair, and routine maintenance of cars and light trucks. WTC offers the program as a diploma and associate degree program. The core classes are the same on both programs, but the associate degree program has a general education requirement. Some of the classes in this program include engine repair, brakes, electrical systems, heating and air condition, automatic transmissions and engine performance.

Minnesota State Community and Technical College is a public, two-year college with multiple campus locations throughout Minnesota. The Detroit Lakes, Minnesota location offers a fully accredited automotive service technology program. MSCTC offers this program as an associate degree program with general education courses and as a diploma program with just the core AST courses. Some of the coursework in this program includes, alignment and suspension, automotive electronics, engines, ignition systems, intro to computer tech and drive trains.Students will also participate in a internship and an actual repair shop. All of the instructors at MSCTC are NATEF/ASE certified in all eight areas of automotive service. It generally takes a year to complete the diploma program and two years to complete the associate degree program.

Minnesota West Community and Technical College is located in west Minnesota in Granite Falls, Minnesota. The college is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System and is accredited by Higher Learning Commission. The automotive technology program at MWCTC is a 72-credit program that takes two years to complete. Some of the classes in this program include introduction to transportation, brakes, engine technology and lab, manual drive train and axles, advanced engine performance and air conditioning. Eighteen credits of general education are required. Graduates will be awarded an associate degree in automotive technology.
