Trident Technical College is a public school. Approximately 12,000 students attend the five Trident campuses throughout South Carolina and two of the campuses, including the main campus, are in Charleston. Students can earn certificates or associate degrees at Trident. Academic programs offered include business technology, behavioral sciences and cosmetology. Students must submit qualifying scores on the SAT or ACT or make a qualifying score on Trident's placement test. to enroll Trident also offers online courses.

Miller-Motte Technical College offers both degree and certificate program. While most Miller-Motte degree and certificate programs are in the medical field, students also can obtain degrees or certificates in cosmetology and criminal justice. Prospective students do not need SAT or ACT scores to be admitted; they will take a placement test during the admissions process. Students who successfully complete a Miller-Motte degree or certificate program will receive job placement assistance.

ECPI College of Technology has campuses throughout South Carolina, Virginia and North Carolina. The ECPI campus in Charleston offers both associate and Bachelor of Science degrees. Students can earn degrees in business administration, electronics engineering or medical administration. Courses are offered both on campus and online. Financial aid is available for qualifying students. The ECPI Charleston campus offers career services to help students with interview skills and resume preparation.
