LPN Courses Near Everett, Washington

The Washington State Employment Security Department predicts that the demand for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in Snohomish County, home to the town of Everett, will increase by more than 18 percent from 2008 through 2018. To obtain an LPN license in the state of Washington, prospective nurses must first complete a training program approved by the Department of Health. A small number of schools within 30 minutes of Everett offer such programs.

    • A public institution, Everett Community College is home to more than 20,000 full- and part-time students. The college's Department of Health-approved LPN program takes one year to complete. To qualify for admission to the program, students must have a high school diploma or GED and one year of both algebra and chemistry at the secondary or post-secondary level. The college also requires LPN applicants to complete prerequisite courses in English, communications, psychology, sociology and biology. Those admitted to the program study patient care, rehabilitation, family health and reproduction and acute illnesses. Clinical rotations in area medical centers occur throughout the program. Eligible students can receive federal and state loans and grants, institutional scholarships and work-study placements while studying at Everett Community College. Job placement assistance is available. An on-campus daycare provides low-cost child care for students' children.

    Lake Washington Technical College

    • Located in Kirkland, Lake Washington Technical College is a public college approximately 26 miles from Everett. The school has an enrollment of around 4,000 students and offers a one-year certificate program for LPNS. Admission requirements include a high school diploma or GED and previous coursework in anatomy and physiology, composition, algebra and lifespan psychology. Among the courses required for the program are pathophysiology, health assessment, surgical nursing, mental health nursing, communications and nutrition and family medicine. Students complete five clinical rotations prior to graduation. The school participates in federal and state loans and grants, veteran's benefits and worker's rehabilitation financial programs. Lake Washington Tech also offers payment plans, institutional scholarships and work-study placements. The college provides job placement assistance and features an on-campus daycare.

    • With an enrollment of more than 6,500 full and part-time students, North Seattle Community College is approximately 23 miles from Everett. Admission to the one-year LPN program requires a high school diploma or GED and previous coursework experience in human anatomy and physiology, composition and lifespan psychology. Medical terminology and mathematics are recommended, but not required. Those admitted to the program complete classes in nursing fundamentals, the role of nurses, child and adult surgical nursing, critical care, family medicine and intravenous therapy. Two clinical internships are required for graduation. Financial aid programs available for eligible students at North Seattle include federal and state grants and loans, veteran's benefits, work-study placements and institutional scholarships. The college offers job placement assistance and operates an on-site daycare center.
