The Jerusalem Studio School

• Founded in 1996 by Israel Hershberg, the Jerusalem Studio School (JSS) is dedicated to the artistic traditions of representation and figuration. Guided by Hershberg, JSS has become the only Israeli art school that that trains students solely in the skills needed for figurative work. Artistic figuration is art that is based on human or animal forms.

  Master classes help students utilize their practical skills and are open Sundays-Thursdays. Day and evening classes are available. Students who do not have an art education background can participate in the JSS four-year educational program, while students who have an art education background can attend the school’s two-year program.

Belzalel Academy of Art and Design Jerusalem

• Originally named “Belzalel School of Arts and Crafts“, Belzalel Academy of Art and Design Jerusalem (BAADJ) was launched by Boris Schatz in 1906. Students who attend BAADJ can expect to gain an education that will develop their practical, artistic skills. Students will also increase their intellectual knowledge through classes in philosophy, literature, science and technology.

  Students can choose to study in one of eight bachelor’s degree programs and two master’s programs. Obtaining a bachelor’s degree will require between four and five years of study at BAADJ, while acquiring a master’s degree will require two years.

Avni Institute of Art and Design

• Founded in 1936, Avni Institute of Art and Design (AIAD) is the oldest art school in Tel Aviv, Israel. Among the artists who established the school was a man named Aharon Avni. After his death in 1951, Avni received the honor of having the art school he started named Avni Institute.

  AIAD students can receive bachelor of arts degrees from the institution. The school is housed in buildings located in Tel Aviv. Buildings at AIAD are named for prominent teachers who are now deceased. AIAD is recognized as an institution that produces top-knotch and well-known Israeli artists and designers.
