Austin Art Schools

Austin, Texas, is the fourth largest city in Texas and boasts several art schools where you can hone your skills as a hobbyist or study to pursue a career in art. Whether you are looking for courses for your preschool child or are looking to pursue a graduate degree, Austin has an art school.
  1. The University of Texas College of Fine Arts

    • Study ballet at the College of Fine Art's department of Theatre and Dance

The University of Texas at Austin's College of Fine Arts encompasses the department of Art History, the Butler School of Music, the department of Theatre and Dance, and the Texas Performing Arts. Both undergraduate and graduate degree programs are available for students looking to pursue a career in art. A student must apply for admission to the specific department he wishes to study in because each admissions department operates independently. The College of Fine Arts is an interactive campus with weekly events such as concert film presentations or panel discussions, as well festivals such as the New Works Festival held biennially to display student's work. This Austin art school boasts a long list of successful alumni such as Kate Roberts, who starred in the Broadway production "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson," as well as Nate Heiges, who has exhibited his work at the Primetime studio in Brooklyn, New York.

    The Art Institute of Austin

    • The faculty at the Art Institute of Austin, a branch of the Art Institute of Houston, teach students advanced techniques, such as topography, within the fields of graphic design, or photography. More than 10 majors are available within the design, culinary, media arts and fashion degree programs. For students with tight schedule, both on-campus and online courses are available.

    Cordovian Art School

    • Share a glass of wine at the Ladies Art Night Out every Wednesday

The Cordovian Art School, at Jerry's Artarama, offers art classes to students as young as four years old the fundamentals of painting, drawing and photography. The classes are divided by age into pre-K (four to five years old), elementary (six to eight years old), youth (nine to 12 years old), teens (13 to 18 years old) and adults. Classes are held once a week and tuition is paid on a monthly basis for the five-month semester. Supplies are not included in tuition, so students receive a list of required supplies to purchase before each course begins. Ladies Art Night Out is held every Wednesday and is a ladies-only event, where you can express your creativity while socializing and sharing wine and appetizers.

    Dougherty Art School

    • The Dougherty Art School is a community-based arts organization, which offers classes in drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, music, and theater, for students ranging in age from three years old to senior citizens. The Explore Preschool program is offered twice weekly to children between ages three and five to develop their motor skills through playing with clay and paint, or singing and dancing. Youth camps are available for children ages nine to 12 for the full-day, as well as half-day camps for teens in the summer. The after school programs of Afternoon Art and Creativity Club are open to children from ages five to 12, as well as several teen workshops for teens between the ages of 13 to 15.
