Italian Architecture Schools

From the Roman Colosseum to Florence's Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, Italy is home to some of the world's most impressive architecture. Architecture students who choose to study in Italy can draw inspiration from local architecture, while learning about the history of Italian architecture and forming personal design styles. Italy has several architecture schools, each with unique degree programs and teaching methods.
  1. Politecnico di Milano

    • The Politecnico di Milano offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in architecture. Architecture students can study at the Piacenza campus or at the main Leonardo campus in Milan. International English-speaking students need not worry about the language barrier, as the school offers a three-year bachelor’s degree program in English. Students take classes in the history of architecture, environmental design, urban planning and mathematics, while undertaking studio work to develop their design skills.

    University of Florence

    • The University of Florence has evolved from a medieval Italian school built in 1321, to a modern university with an architectural degree program. Florence's architecture--including Michelangelo's Laurentian Library and the Pazzi Chapel by Filippo Brunelleschi--makes it a popular city for architecture students. The University of Florence welcomes international students and offers Italian language and culture classes. The school also provides academic tutors and encourages students to find internships that give them the opportunity to learn architecture on the job.

    University Iuav di Venezia

    • The Universita Iuav di Venezia offers a three-year undergraduate program and a two-year graduate program in architecture. Courses include conferences, workshops, internships and exhibitions to teach architecture from several angles. The graduate program gives students the chance to specialize in one of five fields: landscape architecture, building technology, urban design, conservation or sustainable architecture. The school also has summer workshops with successful international architects, such as Alejandro Aravena, Rudy Ricciotti and Paolo Soleri.
