  1. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

    • Founded 22 years after the Wright brothers’ first flight, Embry-Riddle University has two campuses in Prescott, Arizona, and Daytona Beach, Florida, as well as an online branch. The school focuses mainly on aviation-related degrees, though it also offers curriculums in business, engineering and sciences. ERAU is often considered one of the top aviation schools in the country, sharing the nickname “Harvard of the Skies” with the University of North Dakota.

      The school offers five master’s degrees in aviation: an MBA in aviation management, an MBA in aviation, a Master of Science in aeronautics, a Master of Science in aerospace engineering and a Masters of Aeronautical Science.

      For those looking for a flexible program or those who cannot attend in-person classes at either campus, the aeronautical science, MBA in aviation and the MBA in aviation management are all offered through distance learning.

    University of North Dakota

    • If you’d prefer to attend a school that offers a general curriculum as well as aviation studies, consider the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota.

      The school offers just one master’s degree in aviation, a Master of Science in aviation. The degree program focuses on providing education to aviation industry professionals--it allows students to earn the degree without leaving their current jobs--and giving them skills to solve problems in the realms of airlines, corporate aviation, airport management and general aviation. Students also learn statistics and research methods and how they can be applied to the industry.

    Breyer State University

    • Get your master’s degree online at Breyer State University in California, which offers a master’s in aviation management. The program trains students to run everyday activities at airlines or airports. The courses focuses on both aviation--corporate, commercial and international--as well as maintenance and psychology.

      Students are required to choose one track of management on which to focus. The degree tracks can lead to careers such as airport terminal controller, airline manager or airport safety manager.

      All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in aviation management, airport management, airport safety management, air traffic control or another related field.
