Aviation Law Degrees

Aviation law is a specialty in the legal field that addresses issues of flight regulation, commercial air travel and business policies. It is often studied in the context of international law or in conjunction with space law. Several schools provide training in aviation law. Graduates are prepared to seek employment in a range of contexts, such as commercial airline companies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or private law firms.

    • DePaul University offers a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in international law with a concentration in international aviation law and policy. This program consists of required core training in international business transactions, trade law and public international law. Additional concentration coursework includes private international aviation law, aviation law and policy issues, public international aviation law, commercial dispute resolution, environmental law, U.S. customs and international trade and European Union law. Students also have the opportunity to complete a professional external internship course.

    University of Mississippi

    • The School of Law at the University of Mississippi is home to the National Center for Remote Sensing, Air and Space Law that addresses issues of both aviation and astronautic law. It provides a certificate program in remote sensing, air and space law that may be taken in conjunction with a law degree. It consists of coursework in U.S. aviation law, international aviation law, international space law and U.S. domestic space law or remote sensing law. Elective options include environmental law, European law, commercial arbitration and international security. A independent study course or professional internship placement is also required.

    Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

    • Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers a minor program in aviation law that may be taken in conjunction with many of the university's aviation-related degree programs, including aeronautical science, aerospace engineering, air traffic management, aerospace studies and space physics. This program consists of coursework in aviation law and the administrative law process for aviation.
