University Foundation Degrees

A University Foundation Degree is an intermediary or sub-degree qualification offered by British Universities in cooperation with employers. The creation of the qualification was designed to meet skill shortages of higher-qualified skilled technicians. The degrees are vocationally related, and can be characterized as a new take on the apprenticeship tradition. The first foundation courses were introduced September 2001, and such courses are now offered in universities across Britain, such as the University of Portsmouth and the University of Brighton.
