How Can I Get into UIC If I Got a Low Score on My ACT?

Deciding on a college is a major decision for a student. The application process takes time, preparation and organization. A part of this process includes taking standardized tests like the ACT, which measures students' educational development and ability to complete college level work. The pressure to be accepted into a certain school can be very stressful for prospective students. The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is a major research university that welcomes prospective students to attend information sessions on campus to learn more about admissions procedures and the programs the school has to offer.

Instructions

    • 1

Retake the ACT. Take an ACT preparation course to work on areas you had trouble with on the test. Consider getting a tutor to help you study. You can submit the higher score with your UIC admission application.

    • 2

Take the SAT and submit those scores with your application. Only one standardized test score is required for admission to UIC. SAT scores can be submitted instead of ACT scores.

    • 3

Go to a junior college first. Complete a minimum of 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours and meet the minimum transfer grade-point average requirements to apply to UIC as a transfer student. Transfer applicants do not need to submit ACT scores.

    • 4

Maintain a good GPA and class rank at your current school. Colleges look closely at an applicant's academic record in addition to the ACT score. Ask a teacher to write a letter of recommendation highlighting your academic achievements. Submit this letter with your application.
