Determine whether you fit the application requirements. Before applying, make sure that you are eligible. You must be a high school senior and American citizen. Educationally, you need an SAT score of at least 1300 with a GPA (grade point average) of 3.5 or higher. You also need to have extensive experience as a leader, either in community or school activities including sports, yearbook and honor society.
Visit Black America Web, which is located at blackamericaweb.com. In the upper right-hand corner of the page, locate the search box. Within the box, type in scholarship. Once you see the results, look for "Tom Joyner Foundation - Full Ride Scholarship." Click on the "Apply Today" button to download the application. Make sure that the application says current year so that it isn't outdated. Print the application out.
Fill out the application. Put in your full name, email address, home address, birth date, social security number, gender, academic history, job history and extracurricular activity information. Apart from solely completing the form, request certified copies of your high school transcripts from the registrar, as well as at least two recommendation letters from educational professionals, such as a teacher or principal. Letters from family members are not permitted for the application.
Write your application essay. The scholarship program requests that the essays are no longer than 350 words. In a concise and clear manner, answer the essay question. Make sure to use your best grammar and spelling skills, as the scholarship program is seeking out diligent students.
Sign and date the application. Then, place it in an envelope -- along with your essay -- and write out the mailing address, which is:
