How to Get Into Harvard Dental School

Getting into dental school begins with the same first step regardless of which particular program you want to attend. The Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS) allows all potential dental school students to apply to 59 schools using one form that is available online. This is also true when applying to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, which like the entire university, is world-renowned for being an educational institution of distinction.

Meet prerequisite requirements. All students applying for the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) must meet certain academic requirements. Only candidates who either have a bachelor's degree or are in the last year of an undergraduate degree are considered for admittance. Though certain classes are only recommended, students must have completed science courses such as biology, inorganic or general chemistry and physics. English and calculus are required courses, as well.

Complete all application components. The application process begins with completing an AADSAS application. You must also file your official transcripts, three individual letters of recommendations and official DAT scores through the AADSAS as well. Once you submit your application with the AADSAS, you must simultaneously send a $75 application fee to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

    • 3

Follow the admissions process. Once the HSDM Office of Admissions receives notification of your verified transcripts and letters of recommendations from the AADSAS, your application is processed. You then receive email notifications acknowledging the receipt of your application, verifying receipt of all required materials and information about the screening process. The interview follows the screening and offers begin December 1 for the cycle that begins the following fall.

Apply for financial aid. Once you have actually been accepted to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, applying for financial aid is a viable option if you need it. The total costs for first year DMD students are approximately $59,000 and 75% of students receive aid benefits. This includes room, board, health insurance and other fees. Because HSDM is a private learning institution, all tuition and fees are the same for all students regardless of residency status.
