Earn at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. According to the HSDM, the degree need not be based in medicine. However, applicants must take have taken at least eight credit hours (or two semesters worth) in each of the following fields: biology, inorganic or general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, calculus and English. As of 2006, Harvard accepted those with an average 3.77 GPA into the school.
Obtain official transcripts from your college or university. Contact your college's registrar to order copies.
Take the Dental Admission Test (DAT). Sign up and register for the test by visiting the American Dental Association's website. You must submit your DAT scores with your HSDM application. In 2006, Harvard accepted an average DAT score of 24.4.
Ask for letters of recommendation from professors who know your academic abilities and supervisors or dentists who can vouch for your professionalism and love of dentistry. HSDM requires at least three letters (or one committee letter). At least two of your letters must come from professors who specialize in science.
Complete the HSDM application (the AADSAS application). This application is available over the Internet from the HSDM website. As of 2010, the test costs $75, which can be paid via credit card or a check sent to: Harvard School of Dental Medicine, DMD Program, 188 Longwood Ave., Boston MA 02115.
