Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine (CUCVM) was ranked as the number one program of 2007 by U.S. News and World Report. CUCVM, established in 1894, has approximately 335 students studying for a DVM degree and 110 students working on their master and doctorate degrees.

Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, Colorado, was ranked number two by U.S. News and World Report for its veterinary program. CSU's College of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 1907. CSU offers a pre-veterinary program along with their DVM degree, but students are not required to complete their pre-veterinary studies at CSU in order to get into their DVM program.

The University of California Davis (UCD) ranks number three on U.S. News and World Report's list for its veterinary medicine program. UCD opened its School of Veterinary Medicine in 1948 and offers the only veterinary program in the University of California system. Over 5,000 students have graduated from UCD with a DVM degree.
