Pharmaceutical Colleges in California

Pharmacists distribute prescription medications to patients, counsel patients on possible interactions and side effects and help patients monitor their health condition to ensure that medications are being used properly. In all 50 states and the District of Columbia, pharmacists must complete a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree and become licensed before practicing. The following schools in California offer Doctor of Pharmacy degrees.
  1. Loma Linda University

    • Loma Linda University is the first Seventh - day Adventist institution to offer a Pharmacy Doctorate degree, established in 2002. The four-year program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and educates pharmacists in the highest ethical and professional standards, and prides itself on emphasizing whole-person care.

    University of California, San Francisco

    • The University of California San Francisco School of Pharmacy offers a number of graduate degrees, including Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Public Health, Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Science in Clinical Research, Doctor of Pharmacy and Philosophy and several post-doctorate options. For the last 30 years, the school has received more National Institutes of Health research funding than any other pharmacy school in the U.S. The University of California San Francisco is one of ten campuses in the University of California system.

    University of the Pacific

    • University of the Pacific's Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers a master of science in pharmaceutical chemical sciences, doctor of pharmacy and doctor of philosophy in pharmaceutical and chemical sciences. The university also offers joint programs in Pharm.D./PhD, Pharm.D./MS and Pharm.D./MBA. The School is located on the university's Stockton campus and was founded in 1955.

    University of Southern California

    • University of Southern California was the first to offer a six-year program leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy, and the first in the nation to offer a clinical pharmacy degree. The university offers Master's and Doctorate degrees in molecular pharmacology and toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences and pharmaceutical economics and policy. Approximately 50 percent of pharmacists in southern California are graduates of USC.
