How to Correct a FAFSA

Many potential and enrolled college students struggle to figure out how to pay that hefty college tuition bill. Luckily, through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, many families qualify for merit- and need-based aid either through the federal government or through their school. In 2007-08, 66 percent of undergraduate students received some form of financial aid to help pay for college expenses, and 47 percent of that was through federal aid, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. All information submitted through the FAFSA must be correct to receive the appropriate amount of financial aid, and this information must be supplied again through the renewal FAFSA application before June 30 each year you are in school. Fortunately, correcting information that is inaccurate is a relatively simple process, but must be completed and submitted by Sept. 15 of that same year.
