The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers offers the largest selection of art scholarships in America. Nearly $4 million dollars worth of scholarships are awarded to art students each year through the alliance, each of which is funded by various institutions and businesses. Partners of the alliance include The New York Times, Scholastic and amazon.com. High school seniors may apply for scholarships through the Alliance's website at artandwriting.org.
The NAMTA Foundation is a private non-profit organization that believes the future of the arts lies in today's students. The foundation's board of trustees offers scholarships to worthy students each year based upon merit and artistic talent. The Visual Arts Major Scholarship is open to the public each year. Applicants must be high school graduates. All applicants should plan to pursue a major in an art medium that can include sculpting, painting, sketching or drawing. While judges consider high school grades and financial need, preference is given to those that show enthusiasm for the arts and verifiable talent.
The Art Renewal Center (ARC) offers a yearly competition for traditional artists who are enrolled in an ARC approved program (see resources), five of which are awarded $1,000 scholarships and six of which are offered $2,500 scholarships. Students must show an interest in humanist art derived from the renaissance era through early 19th century art. An additional $10,000 in scholarships is awarded to students who show potential, but have had no academic art training. No entry fees are required to participate.
