The program is intended to provide assistance to adults who have not graduated from high school and need to upgrade their skills in order to find employment. This program provides grants of up to CA$12,000 to post-secondary students in British Columbia who have a permanent disability. The grants cover any extra equipment or technology that a student with a disability may require to attend school. This grant does not cover tuition, books and ordinary living expenses. Post-secondary students in British Columbia with permanent disabilities can have up to CA$1,000 of their British Columbia student loans replaced with a non-repayable British Columbia Access Grant. You must be a full-time student, be approved for a British Columbia student loan and have verification of your permanent disability to qualify for this grant. This bursary provides financial assistance of up to CA$1,800 to pay for a learning disabilities assessment. You must be a student at a public British Columbia post-secondary institution, be recommended by a disabilities service provider, and demonstrate financial need to qualify for this bursary. This bursary is automatically awarded to British Columbia post-secondary students who have qualified for a Canada student grant for students with permanent disabilities. Students taking 40 percent or more of a full course load qualify for an CA$800 bursary, and students taking between 20 percent and 39 percent of a full course load qualify for CA$400. This bursary is available for nurses who are upgrading their skills, foreign-trained nurses who need to upgrade their training to Canadian standards, and nursing students. This program provides financial assistance to full-time post-secondary students in British Columbia between the ages of 19 and 23 who were under government-supervised guardianship, such as foster care, until the age of 19. British Columbia post-secondary students who are enrolled in college, trade school or university programs lasting longer than two years may be eligible to receive federal student grants. Students from low- or middle-income families and/or students caring for dependents younger than 12 years old can receive grants of up to CA$250 per month of study.
