The Women in Transition scholarship, funded by the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting, goes to women returning to school as incoming or current freshmen. The grant is merit-based, and students can receive up to $16,000 for four years of college. Students must be pursuing a degree in accounting, must show financial need and must have established goals for their career. Winning applicants can apply for three-year extensions dependent on course completion. The deadline for the scholarship is the spring.

The Women’s Independence Scholarship Program is for women who have survived abuse by a partner. This scholarship is open to full- or part-time students either enrolling for the first time or returning to school. Students must enroll at community colleges, state or private colleges or universities, technical or vocational schools, or proprietary schools. The main goal of the program is to help mothers with young children, who might be the most financially strapped. Eligibility requires being enrolled for at least six consecutive months in a domestic abuse program, being separated from your partner for at least one year, showing financial need and having career goals.

The AAUW’s Career Development Grant is for women looking to return to school to pursue advanced degrees; they must already have bachelor’s degrees. This grant is geared toward minority women, women hoping to complete their first advanced degree or women looking to pursue a degree in a nontraditional field. Money can go for tuition, books, school fees, child care or transportation. Eligibility requires being a U.S. citizen or legal resident. Grant amounts vary from $2,000 to $12,000; applications are accepted during the fall.
