Ultrasound Technologist Degrees

An associate degree is typically required to practice as an ultrasound technologist. Many technical schools and community colleges offer ultrasound training programs. Regardless of whether you are interested in becoming an ultrasound technologist due to a love of the medical field, interest in flexible hours or a desire to work with technology, you have a variety of educational options.
  1. St. Louis Community College - Forest Park

    • St. Louis Community College's Forest Park campus, located in St. Louis, Missouri, offers a full-time 42-credit certificate of proficiency in diagnostic medical sonography. Students can choose a certification program that specializes in medical sonography, cardiac sonography or vascular technology. Students spend 1,400 hours learning in the classroom and then partake in clinical rotations to practice their skills. To be considered for admission to this program, applicants must have completed an associate degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, spent at least four hours shadowing an ultrasound technologist and 120 hours providing patient care.

    NHTI Concord's Community College

    • Located in Concord, New Hampshire, NHTI Concord's Community College is a small school with a student body of approximately 5,000. The college offers a full-time, four-semester diagnostic medical sonography degree program at the college. In order to be considered for acceptance to the program, applicants must possess an associate degree in an allied health field or a bachelor's degree in a scientific field. Throughout the course of the program, students learn about vascular, obstetric and gynecological ultrasound.

    Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College

    • Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, located in Asheville, North Carolina, offers a full-time, two-year associate degree program in medical diagnostic sonography. Students learn about how to use ultrasound equipment, the pathology of disease processes, the basics of anatomy and physiology, the basics of fetal development and communication skills. Upon completion of the classroom portion of training, students partake in clinical rotations to practice their clinical skills.
