Duke University has a legal nurse consultant program designed for registered nurses interested in incorporating the legal system with their line of work. This program, conducted in a classroom format, is divided into six separate modules that are taken over the course of 15 class meetings and must be taken in sequence. These modules include topics such as introduction to legal nurse consulting/risk management, legal theory and fundamentals, case analysis, research and report writing, legal nurse consultant role in discovery, and trial preparation/forensic nursing and business principles.

Widener Law Center offers a legal nurse consultant program designed for licensed registered nurses who are looking for an opportunity to expand their career options. Students who complete this program may find themselves working in settings such as law firms, hospitals, insurance companies, health maintenance organizations, risk management departments and government agencies. Students may complete this program on a part-time or full-time schedule and may take classes online, during the day or during the evening. Students in this program also have the option of completing an additional eight classes to receive a certificate with a concentration in forensic nursing.

Capital University offers a legal nurse consultant program that was put together with the cooperation of the School of Nursing and the Law Schools' Paralegal Program at Capital. This program is designed for registered nurses who are experienced in their field and seeking an opportunity to apply their medical expertise toward issues as a legal team member. This program lasts for 10 months with classes held during the first weekend of each month. Students will take courses that include foundations, legal nurse consultant practice, worker's compensation, civil litigation, health care and insurance law, medical research and records and legal research and writing.
