The University of Tennessee’s Knoxville campus has a phlebotomy technician program that teaches students all of the aspects related to blood collection. In addition to this 90-hour program, students complete an internship prior to graduating from the certificate program. Courses include anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, laboratory law, ethics and regulatory issues, non-blood specimen collection and laboratory operations.

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts has a phlebotomy technician certificate program that begins every two months at the Fresno, San Mateo, Concord and Modesto campuses. The program lasts for 10 weeks, with students meeting twice each week at four hours in each class; the internship lasts for five weeks. Courses include an introduction to phlebotomy, quality assurance in health care, human anatomy and physiology, and infection control.

MTI College’s phlebotomy technician program leads to a certificate upon completion of the program and prepares students for registry and certification exams such as the National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) and Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) exams. In addition to the course requirements, students complete a 40-hour laboratory externship without pay.

Alexandria Technical College’s phlebotomy technician program leads to a certificate of completion upon graduation from the 20-credit program. Five of these credits are from clinical experiences which are required for program completion. Courses include survey of anatomy and physiology, basic lab techniques, introduction to computer, phlebotomy skills and job seeking and keeping skills.

Renton Technical College’s phlebotomy technician program leads students to earn their certificate of completion upon graduation from the program. This program is designed to be completed in one half of a quarter on a full-time schedule with classroom theory being completed in the evenings and clinical experiences completed during the day. Students can enter into the program in any quarter and will learn law and legal issues, proper body mechanics and a variety of blood-drawing techniques.
