According to Drew Stevens Consulting, it appears that the reason behind the failure of most businesses is the lack of focus on the customers of the organization. Customer service programs are available across the United States and prepare students to become employees that provide businesses with this vital part of support in order to increase the business’ chance of survival.

    • Charter Oak State College has a health insurance customer service certificate program that is designed for individuals who are interested in a career in the health insurance industry. Students are required to complete six courses which are all offered in an accelerated format online. Courses include introduction to health care systems and administration, the claims environment, management information systems, medical records science, medical terminology and health care quality concepts and principles.

    Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

    • Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University has a customer service certificate program that requires students to complete two core courses and two elective courses. The courses are delivered in workshop formats which last for one day per course. Courses include fundamentals of customer service and listening skills as the core courses and a choice from critical thinking skills, personality and effective communication and managing conflict as the electives.

    • South Puget Sound Community College has a certificate of completion program for customer service specialist that is designed to prepare its students for positions as clerk and as receptionist in the state of Washington. This program can be completed in four quarters for students who attend full time. Courses include office procedures, introduction to Microsoft Office, human dimensions in the office and filing.

    DePaul University

    • DePaul University’s certificate program in customer service excellence is designed to provide students with the techniques and skills that are needed to increase their level of effectiveness when dealing with customers. This program is nine hours in length and is divided into three sessions that last three hours at a time. The first module is a customer service overview, the second module covers the elements of customer service, and the third module is entitled "managing a customer service program".
