Purdue University offers graduate degree options in turf and the urban interface which focuses on the study of turf, land use and septic systems. Students can opt to pursue a Master of Science degree with or without the thesis option or students can pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. Two areas of concentration are involved in this program which includes the science of recreational and residential turfgrass management as well as the control of septic system via the environment. Courses include forage management, turfgrass science, principles and methods for plant breeding and soil classification and survey.

Clemson University has a Bachelor of Science degree program in turfgrass. This program is designed to be completed in four year with course requirements that include plant diseases and people, horticulture, introduction to turfgrass culture and landscape plants. Students are required to choose five courses from related sciences from choices such as plant ecology, essential elements of biochemistry, biology of invasive plants and introduction to environmental science. Students also choose three courses from business, communication and leadership as well as two courses in the soil category. Students must also choose three courses from the horticulture specialization which includes courses such as landscape appreciation, plant propagation and problems in landscape design.

Pennsylvania State University has several online options in turfgrass education for students to pursue. Two certificate options exist where students can either earn a basic certificate or an advance certificate in turfgrass management. The basic certificate requires the completion of 15 credits while the advanced option requires that students complete 30 credits. Course options in the certificate programs include turfgrass management systems, turf insect pest management and introduction to soils. Students also have the option of earn an Associate in Science, in turfgrass science and management, a Bachelor of Science degree in turfgrass science or a Master of Professional Studies degree in turfgrass management. Courses in these options include turfgrass pesticides, turf and ornamental weed control, turfgrass cultural systems, turfgrass nutrition, turfgrass physiology and turfgrass health management.
