The University of California at San Diego (UCSD) offers a certificate program for those working in the fitness and lifestyle industries. The certificate in fitness instruction and exercise science is offered through UCSD's extension studies and public programs department. The program includes 22 units of study, and includes coursework in physiology of exercise, fundamentals of anatomy and kinesiology.
Students may complete the program in an intensive four-quarter series or study in an extended format, to accommodate a work schedule, and complete the program in two to five years. After completing coursework, students must pass an exam administered by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and complete an internship before earning their certificate.
