San Jose State University offers an ALA-accredited degree of Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS). The degree requires the successful completion of 43 units, including a culminating experience that complies with university regulations and school policies. All of the courses are taught completely online. Students and instructors interact through web conferencing, social networks and web-based learning systems. Through the use of such sophisticated technology, the program successfully prepares students for ever-changing information landscape and allows them to find ways to apply technology to all areas of their work. UCLA offers an ALA-accredited degree of Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS). Students take six core courses (information in society, information structures, design of library and information services, information access and management theory and practice for information professionals) and one research methods course. Students select 12 elective courses which are related to their individual interests. Fulfillment of the degree requires participation in an internship as well as the preparation of a portfolio or thesis. Students may choose to specialize in library studies, archival studies or informatics.
