Caribbean Accounting Schools

To become an accountant, students must complete college coursework and take examinations to be certified. Aspiring accountants can study in one of the Caribbean region's many educational institutions, including the University of the West Indies, the University of the Virgin Islands and the University of the Netherlands Antilles. These schools afford students a challenging program in the relaxing and idyllic setting of the Caribbean. New accountants can earn between $60,000 and $75,000.

    • Accounting can be studied in Barbados at the University of the West Indies.

      Located at the Cave Hill campus in Barbados, the University of the West Indies offers an undergraduate accounting degree. The Bachelor of Science in Accounting has three levels of coursework. Level I includes introductory classes in mathematics, statistics, financial accounting and computers. Level II includes business law, managerial economics, financial management, principles of marketing and microcomputer applications for business. Level III classes include auditing, business strategy and policy, management accounting and business, government and society. Additionally, Level III coursework requires students to pick a class from a list of 20 accounting options, which includes include risk analysis and management, bank financial management, Caribbean business environment and international financial management.

    University of the Virgin Islands

    • Take classes in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

      Students attending the University of the Virgin Islands have the benefit of receiving an American education in the Caribbean. Founded in 1962 and with campuses on the islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix, the university offers both associate and bachelor degrees in accounting. The accounting degree program includes classes in auditing, financial accounting, cost accounting and managerial accounting. Associate degree candidates must take accounting courses and classes in the business, economics and mathematics departments. Bachelor of Science candidates must take classes in the accounting, marketing, finance and the computer information science departments as part of their coursework.

    University of the Netherlands Antilles

    • The University of the Netherlands Antilles is an option for aspiring accountants.

      The University of the Netherlands Antilles is situated on the southwestern Caribbean island of Curacao. Its accounting program offers associate and bachelor degrees. The associate degree can be completed in one year, while the Bachelor of Science track can be finished in three years. The associate program includes introductory coursework in financial accounting, mathematics and management skills. Students pursuing a bachelor's degree can enter either the auditing or controlling program. Auditing program classes include principles of accounting and principles of auditing. It also requires each student to participate in an accounting-related internship. Requirements for the controlling degree include coursework in business law, taxation and international economics, and participation in an internship.
