National Correspondence Schools

Advances in technology since the year 2000 have created a greater flexibility for educational opportunities. Students no longer have to be physically present in a classroom to work toward a degree or certificate. For students with professional or parental obligations that make their schedules less flexible, correspondence schools that offer degrees through a combination of postal mail, email and/or online courses are available from a number of nationally recognized and accredited schools.
  1. Ohio University

    • Ohio University offers correspondence courses delivered through e-mail, fax or postal mail. Enrollment in a correspondence course can take place at anytime and students are given eight months to complete the course. Ohio University offers correspondence courses from accounting to theater, with many options in between. Some courses require supervised mid-course and final exams for successful completion of the program. Correspondence courses are available to everyone, including high school students and adults who do not have a high school diploma.

    University of Mississippi

    • The University of Mississippi offers correspondence or independent study courses for the convenience of students. Courses can be completed in printed version though the mail or through their online Angel program. Although financial aid in not available, loans, grants and scholarships may be an option. At least one supervised final exam, and sometimes a second mid-course exam is required for successful completion of correspondence courses. Courses are available in accounting, chemistry, psychology, Spanish and more.

    University of Missouri

    • The University of Missouri's independent courses of study allow students up to nine months to complete their courses, with enrollment available at any time. Accreditation is provided by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The University of Missouri offers a wide variety of correspondence courses, as well as a Bachelor of General Studies Degree for students who have successfully completed an Associate's Degree or at least 60 completed transferable credit hours.

    Stratford Career Institute

    • The Stratford Career Institute was established in 1991 and currently has more than one million students enrolled. Students have the flexibility of completing courses through the mail, online or a combination of the two. No-interest payment plans are available on their all-inclusive programs. Students can receive their high school diploma in as little as six months or can take up to two years to complete their studies related to business, computer technology, legal, medical, arts and a wide variety of trade careers.
