Once known as the Colorado Consortium of Independent Study, Colorado Online and Distance Education (CODE) offers distance education courses for print correspondence in college and high school. Course topics range from African History to Business Statistics for college. CODE applies credits for courses by allowing students to complete the correspondence course with the approval of an adviser. Correspondence courses must also meet requirements towards the student's degree.
Ohio University developed a correspondence program with options to send and receive assignments by e-mail, FAX or postal mail. These are independent study programs which are prepared by an instructor at Ohio, that provide an overview of the course and all the lesson units that students complete throughout the course. Currently, Ohio University lists 41 correspondence course topics ranging from Sociology to Business Law, with Theater and History in between. If the correspondence courses are not exactly what students want, then the "Independent and Distance Learning Projects" at Ohio University allows for departmental approval of special studies for students.
University of Kentucky's Independent Study Program offers correspondence classes to off campus high school students. Students submit lessons through email, online systems or mail. The courses include Advanced Placement courses, German, Economics, English and several other topics. University of Kentucky also has a correspondence course for ACT Prep that prepares students to take the standardized test near the end of their senior year in high school.
The University of Texas at Austin hosts several correspondence programs for high school students as well as a program for migrant workers. The K-16 program offers courses that align with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and are focused around state-adopted textbooks. Course topics include core subjects in English, math, science and history as well as foreign language and economics. Students submit work either through an online platform, mail, express mail or fax. Students also have the option of meeting their teachers to receive extra attention.
