What Community Colleges Are in Florida?

In 2011, 28 Florida community colleges collectively educate and train about a million Floridians. These institutions traditionally provide certificate training and adult education to local residents and businesses, and confer academic students with two-year associate degrees. For eight years running, Florida's community colleges have figured prominently among the top 100 associate-degree producers nationwide; in fact, nine of the top 20 hail from Florida. Many community colleges now offer four-year baccalaureate degrees as Florida state colleges.
  1. North

    • Florida State College at Jacksonville, ranked 8th nationwide, offers five campuses to students interested in pursuing bachelor degrees in nursing, computer systems networking and telecommunications, education, fire science management, information technology management, public safety management, and supervision and management. The four-campus Santa Fe College based in Gainesville supports students' pursuits of bachelor degrees in clinical laboratory science or health services administration; the college ranked 12th nationwide. Other community colleges serving north Florida include College of Central Florida based in Ocala, Florida Gateway College in Lake City and St. Johns River State College in Palatka.

    Panhandle

    • Tallahassee Community College, ranked 26th nationwide, offers associate degrees in a wide variety of fields from its campus within the state's capital. Other community colleges serving the panhandle include Northwest Florida State College in Niceville (ranked 66th), Pensacola State College (ranked 86th), Chipola College in Marianna, Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City and North Florida Community College in Madison.

    Central

    • Valencia Community College based in Orlando, ranked 4th nationwide, has seven campuses and offers two baccalaureate programs: electrical and computer engineering technology, and radiologic and imaging services. The nine-campus St. Petersburg College, ranked 10th nationwide, offers bachelor degrees in biology, business, computer and information technology, education, health sciences, nursing, policy and legal studies, public safety administration and veterinary technology. Hillsborough Community College, based in Tampa and ranked 20th nationwide, focuses on associate degrees in the health sciences within its four campuses. Other community colleges serving Central Florida include Daytona State College in Daytona Beach (ranked 28th), Brevard Community College in Cocoa (ranked 29th), Indian River State College in Fort Pierce (ranked 51st), Seminole State College of Florida in Sanford (ranked 55th), Lake-Sumter Community College in Leesburg, Pasco-Hernando Community College in New Port Richey, Polk State College in Winter Haven, and South Florida Community College in Avon Park.

    South

    • Miami Dade College, ranked 2nd nationwide, has six campuses and offers bachelor degrees in film, television and digital production, health sciences, public safety management, supervision and management, education, electronics engineering technology and nursing. The five-campus Broward College based in Fort Lauderdale and ranked 6th nationwide, supports the pursuit of bachelor degrees in teacher education, nursing, supervision and management, information technology and technology management. Palm Beach State College, ranked 15th nationwide, offers five campuses and two baccalaureate degrees: supervision and management, and information management. Other community colleges serving the south Florida region include Edison State College in Fort Myers (ranked 73rd), State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (ranked 87th) and Florida Keys Community College.
